Festa di San Sebastiano

Festa di San Sebastiano – Festival of Saint Sebastian the Patron will take place in Palazzolo 10th of August.

In the province of Syracuse, the cult of Saint Sebastian chosen by the church as “depulsor pestis” and defender of the faith is prior to 1414, the year in which a miraculous simulacrum of the Saint landed at Melilli. Starting from that year, the cult for Saint Sebastian spread extraordinarily throughout the Hyblean area and was further consolidated throughout Sicily. In Palazzolo the great devotion for this saint is very ancient as attested to the chapel dedicated to him existing since the fifteenth century, at the church of the Annunciation. The feast, set for the anniversary of January 20, the day of his martyrology, in Palazzolo is replicated on August 10, with the same great devotion, but with a frame of public, spectacularity and exceptional folklore.
